AMD is showcasing some of its ongoing development work to help
support the Distributed Management Task Force (DMTF) WS-Management
specification at Microsoft TechEd IT Forum in Barcelona November
14-17. WS-Management, or the Web Services for Management
specification, helps promote management interoperability between
various management applications and managed systems.
Management interoperability is key to keeping down management
costs for IT organizations. Most IT organizations today have
deployed a heterogeneous mix of platforms and technologies, such as
virtualization. Management interoperability allows IT
administrators to manage such a datacenter environment while
lowering TCO and complexity.
AMD is demonstrating a variety of typical monitoring and
diagnostics scenarios using WS-Management support provided by both
Microsoft and Avocent Corporation. The demonstrations also
utilize management cards supporting OPMA (Open Platform Management
Architecture). OPMA is an open specification that defines a
common interface between the server platform and management
subsystem. OPMA is the product of an ongoing collaboration
with partners and OPMA-enabled management cards and motherboards
are now available.
The demonstrations will be available in the TechEd Exhibition
Hall at AMD's booth (stand number A13). The demonstrations
will also be shown in session MGT316: WS-Management:
Heterogeneous Application Systems Management and Problem
Solving.
